Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), also known as PMUY Free Gas Connection, is a government-sponsored scheme that aims to provide free LPG connections to poor households in India. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 May 2016.
Under the PMUY, eligible households are provided with a free LPG connection, a free LPG stove, and a free refill of 14.2 kg LPG cylinder. The cost of the connection is borne by the government.
To be eligible for the PMUY, a household must meet the following criteria:
- The household must be below the poverty line.
- The head of the household must be a woman.
- The household must not have any other LPG connection.
- The PMUY has been a huge success since its launch. As of March 2023, over 80 million LPG connections have been provided under the scheme. The scheme has helped to improve the health and well-being of millions of people in India.
To apply for a PMUY connection, you can visit your nearest LPG distributor or apply online. You will need to provide the following documents:
- Your Aadhaar card
- Your ration card
- A proof of address
Once you have submitted your application, the LPG distributor will verify your eligibility and issue you a free LPG connection.
